5 Ways to Fake a Mudroom
That haphazard pile of coats and shoes near your front door isn’t going to cut it. Here’s how to create a functional and organized storage spot, even when you think you don’t have enough room.

Reclaim a Corner
If you don’t have enough space for a mudroom, clearing a spot in the corner of a room is a good solution. In this space, wood boards were hung on the wall, with the top board acting as a spot to display family photos and the bottom board holding coats, scarves, and bags. Stained wooden crates help to delineate the corner and store books, shoes, and garden tools.

Turn a Hallway Into a Mudroom
A narrow hallway can serve another purpose other than connecting rooms. Hallway closet doors were removed to create a “command center” with a bench, hooks, baskets, and shelves. On the opposite wall, a giant chalkboard wall calendar keeps everyone on top of schedules and to-do lists.

Designate a Spot in Your Garage
Make the most of every space in your house, even the empty spots that seem inconvenient or useless. The ramp in this garage became the perfect mudroom. Sheetrock was added to the walls to make the space more polished. Benches with outdoor fabric-covered cushions provide a spot to put on shoes, while hooks and baskets help corral jackets, shoes, and other small accessories. A striped accent wall and small decor trimmings complete the room.

Rethink Your Closet
An awkwardly shaped coat closet can be your solution to a mudroom-less house. In this small closet, the hard-to-reach rod was replaced with hooks and a bench and shelves were installed. Baskets help to organize small goods, while beadboard and trim both make the space seem more “finished.”
