A Victorian House in East London Gets a Modern Extension

The owners of a private Victorian house in Victoria Park, East London hired Tamir Addadi Architecture to design a modern extension along with some renovations to the lower ground floor of their residence. Originally they only requested an extension to house a dining room, but reconsidered to alleviate the blocked view to the back garden.

When the project started, a utility room with a bathroom was located at the back essentially blocking the garden from the kitchen’s view, as well as preventing natural daylight to enter the interior. Also, the garden could only be accessed through a paved patio and stairs due to it being at a higher level. To remedy the situation, a small extension was built where the original patio was and the utility room was moved to the front. That allowed for the living room to be moved to the back with brand-new access to the multi-level outdoor space. The dining room is now in the front where the living room used to be.

Part of the garden was dug out to create a new paved area that extends out from the living room. Built-in furniture was installed and the walls and planters were painted white for a clean and crisp space.
