House Tour :: A Tailored Chic & Eclectic Home

We’ve been hoarding this gorgeous home tour in our archives for quite some time now. The vast color palette, luxe textures, and patterns found throughout this home have us noting inspiration left and right! The home was designed with Southern perfection in mind by the seriously talented Logan Killen Interiors team. We have no doubt you’ll be just as motivated by this tailored chic & eclectic home as we are.

The living room is the epitome of cozy and comfortable meets charming and chic.  I love the way the buffet was opened up into the dining room. It feels airy and open concept, while the built-in storage in the middle provides a clear division of spaces.

The dining room itself is pretty minimal. There’s something really refreshing about having only functional furniture in this space. There’s no sideboard, bar cart, or occasional chairs- but the scale of the heavy dining set fills the space without needing any additional furniture to balance the room. The traffic path feels open, airy, and modern.

On the opposing side of the casual living room, you’ll find a formal seating area. We are crushing hard on all that green! It’s SO so good. Unlike the other rooms throughout this home, this is the only space with a painted ceiling… and a statement color, at that! It really draws attention to the moldings and vaulted height.

We didn’t name this home tour eclectic for nothing… in addition to taxidermy and traditional window treatments (complete with a valence), this room boasts a wide range of artwork and vintage pieces. And have you noticed the variety of lighting, patterned pillows, and rugs?

In the kitchen, we love how they used wallpaper to give some life between the cabinets and ceiling. If you can’t have cabinetry that extends all the way up, you might as well have some fun with pattern!

Taking a closer look, I would guess that this space was more of a budget kitchen makeover than renovation. Based on the cabinetry style, it seems as though they may have been painted. It’s also safe to assume that the marble backsplash was a later addition. It goes to show that you don’t have to gut a space to give it a whole new look!

Alongside the kitchen sits this charming banquette and breakfast nook. The drapes – a modern chintz in green – feel perfectly vintage alongside the bench seat and table.

Can we take a minute to talk about that dining table? It’s the perfect warm wood tone and the pedestal base is what modern chic dreams are made of. Paired with a peacock chair and a mid mod floor lamp, this space almost takes on the feel of a beach cottage.

Perhaps my favorite space in the entire house is… the master bathroom! From the mirrors to the sconces, vanity, and tile… this place is pretty perfect. It feels clean and modern, but is also warm and inviting.

The textural window treatment expertly balances the heavy vanity. There are so many textures and patterns throughout the space, but they all work together and feel cohesive. Speaking of texture, I’ve never been a fan of putting a shag (or high pile) rug in a bathroom. I’m a little OCD about moisture and germs, but I do love the way it looks… I’m just not sure it’s super functional in this instance. Thoughts?

I also have to say, in 2017, I’m looking forward to seeing more color. The bedroom below is the perfect example! Now THIS is how to rock a diverse color palette.

Another item I’d also like to point out is layering… specifically the layering of carpet. So many people ask if layering a rug on top of carpet is ok. The answer is absolutely yes! As long as you have a traffic path and aren’t tripping over it, it totally works. The last thing I’m fan girling in this bedroom is the monochromatic window treatments. The woven shades with the custom drapery is on point… especially against the grasscloth wall covering.

Last but not least, we had to give you a peek at this vanity moment. Toile wallpaper… it doesn’t get any more chic than that! Paired with a bamboo mirror, this space definitely has a regency vibe. Notice the mixed metals and original vanity? This is a great example of how to spice up a space without a complete demo and rebuild. A little paint and wallpaper go a long way.

If you’re wondering how to bring the best of this tour into your home, here’s how I’d get the look…

1 brass chandelier | 2. ‘confetti’ art print | 3. aqua trim pillow & kilim pillow | 4. carved wood accent table | 5. edam swivel chair | 6. vintage wood arc floor lamp | 7. white rag rug| 8. pink checked throw

The only rule of this home is that each space really carries its own color scheme that helps to tie it all together. Other than that, the pieces are really a collection of items from every era. Mid-century, regency and boho are predominant, but the real key is a wide variety of prints and patterns layered together with pieces the homeowners simply feel drawn to.
